Årdal is a former municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The 558-square-kilometre (215 sq mi) municipality existed from 1859 until 1965. It stretched from the head of the Årdalsfjorden in the west to the county border in the east. It encompassed the southern half of the present-day Hjelmeland Municipality. The administrative centre of the municipality was the village of Årdal where the Old Årdal Church is located.

Årdal er en tidligere selvstendig kommune i Rogaland. Årdal var opprinnelig del av Hjelmeland formannskapsdistrikt, men ble skilt ut som egen kommune i 1849. Årdal er mest kjent for sin renesanssekirke, Årdal gamle kirke, som ble preget av Stavangerrenessansens to største kunstnere Lauritz Snekker og Gottfried Hendtzschel.
En del av Årdal med 40 innbyggere ble overført til Hjelmeland og Fister kommune ved kongelig resolusjon av 6. mars 1869.
1. januar 1965 ble det meste av Årdal og Fister kommuner, Hjelmeland kommune og Buergårdene i Jelsa (8 innb) slått sammen til den nye Hjelmeland kommune. Den delen av Årdal som gikk inn i Hjelmeland hadde 743 innbyggere. Sunngardene krets i Årdal med 121 innbyggere ble på samme tidspunkt slått sammen med Strand.
