Beeke, Anthon (swedish)
Anthon Beeke was born in 1940 in Amsterdam. With no formal training, he learnt graphic design while working as an assistant for Ed Callahan in Germany, Jacques Richez in France and Janvan Toorn in The Netherlands. In 1963, he started up as an independent designer but became a partner in the well-known agency Total Design, Amsterdam, in 1976. In 1989 he set up his own agency, studio anthonBeeke. Beeke’s clients come from both the cultural and commercial sectors. He is particularly renowned for his posters, but he also produces the forecasting magazine on horticulture, Bloom, together Li Edelkoort. The pair have also worked together on View on Colour. Further, Beeke has devised exhibitions, furnished museums and designed books, magazines, house styles, logos, postage stamps, catalogues, TV commercials, packaging, children’s games, ad campaigns and posters. Most of these designs have won awards one way or another. Beeke also gives lectures and workshops all over the world, and has been a member of many juries and exhibitions. He has taught at several academies in The Netherlands and the US. Until 1997 he was the chief lecturer of the man and communication department at the Design Academy Eindhoven.
